New Ideas for Your Stock Photography
Shooting a stock or flat lay photo can be relatively easy if you have a good sense of style, the right equipment and optimal lighting. But what about finding inspirtaion and creating new ideas for those photos? Now that’s where things can get tricky!
So here are a few steps from a Pro on how you can gather inspiration and create a unqiuely styled image that will attract your ideal customer and start increasing your sales!
Shooting flat lays is relatively easy but coming up with an original idea that doesn’t feel like every other photo is a whole different game.
As a professional brand and product photographer I create 90% of the content I photograph for my clients. So here are some tips from my playbook to help you!
Source tons of inspiration! I gather inspiration and ideas from all kinds of places – Pinterest, Instagram, Google, magazines and more. To get started think about your goals for the images and what you’re trying to shoot. For an example, if you’re marketing a new oil blend you can start by searching each platform for things like essential oils, oil blends, how to make oils, etc. These will pull up images and ideas relative to what you’re shooting and give you some fun inspiration to start working with.
Want to get more specific? Start sourcing by colors. Typing in the color pink on Pinterest can take you all kinds of places! So now it is time to pull these images and collect them in one place. I personally pull all the ones that I like or that have something specific I am loving. I take those images and upload them to a private Pinterest board. From there I can label what about the photos I like. Whether its the plant used, the tile background or maybe the lighting. Each of those things from the group of images can be pulled together to make something unquie, fitting your brand, product and style.
Bonus! You can use these images and the things you like to make your prop shopping list. If you like the plant and don’t have one add it to the list, and look for affordable plant options. Go over to home depot and souce a few backdrop options or some sample tiling that you can use. See, the possibilities are endless once you get on the Inspiration bandwagon!
Did you just get overwhelmed? I can see how that would be possible. We can be a jack of all trades in our business but only for so long. As you continue to scale, increase sales and create new projects. Little tasks like shooting your own photography need to be outsourced. Lucky for you and I both, I have the perfect solution!
